In light of the Michael Brown tragedy--as well as all the other GRAVE, BLOODTHIRSTY INJUSTICES committed by so many of Americas police forces--I dig up this old one, Mr. Policeman, from out of the closet. But this isnt about me, or my songs. This is about Americas dire need for our brilliant artists, celebrities, and thinkers to stand up to the task of shining light on the issues that really matter. Enough, for now, with the party anthems... have we not already heard (more than) our fair share of them the past few years? In my opinion, theres simply too much evil in the world right now for artists across the board to shirk their responsibilities of giving a voice to the marginalized. I truly dont mean to be a buzzkill; I, too, love going to a club and dancing my ass off and trying to escape from all the news of violence and sadness that seems to hang over our world like one awful cloud. But nows not the time to turn a blind eye to it all. Michael Brown doesnt deserve that. Innocent humans in both Gaza and Israel dont deserve that. All the victims of MH17, all the victims in Middle Eastern conflict, and all the victims everywhere else in the world dont deserve that. To my fellow artists, especially musicians, I call on you to join me in making an honest effort to bring back a little SUBSTANCE to the forefront. Rise above the Top 40 din! Its just there to distract you from caring about and paying attention to the reality of these unfortunate situations. And I think we, as a human race, are FAR too intelligent for that.
