In light of the holiday week and all that that brings, (along with a neck ache that prevents me from looking downward for long, ugh), I have not been readily available for LAFPOLI. I take comfort in the fact that during my absence, our website is up and running with a wealth of information on what to do when a pet is found or goes missing, and that the page serves its purpose giving everyone a place to post, seek advice from others and raise awareness of the situations at hand. - In retrospect, I had to come on the page today to acknowledge the fact that we were informed that Lost Dog Carmela - Long Island, NY was found deceased yesterday along the LIRR tracks in the vicinity of where she went missing on 10-30-14. Our hearts are broken for this girl and for all tnat she endured during her absence from home over two months time. Our deepest sympathy goes out to her family most of all, and to all those that loved her, including those she never met, who prayed for her, searched for her, shared her story and hoped for a positive outcome for a dog that just truly deserved her happy ending. It is so difficult posting things like this and sharing news of this nature. It is frightening for other lost owners, and very sad, especially to those of us who strive for a happy reunion, and who take each and every animal to heart and truly feel the hurt of their loss. It is so emotional and such a roller coaster ride. Sometimes it is hard to sought out the feelings. Although nothing can bring Carmela back and those like her, maybe doing something postive can ease some of the ache. In honor of Carmela, (or any other animal) why not donate in her name to a reputable animal facility or rescue that could use a little something extra. A wonderful woman who runs a rescue, received such a donation, and told us about it, and I just thought it was such a beautiful gesture. Whether it be money, blankets, food, toys, services, or an hour of your time, giving to animals in need in Carmelas name will make her passing not in vain. Just a thought. Please be safe tonight, and heres wishing all of you a healthy and fulfilling new year. It is our hope that 2015 proves to be as successful as the last in reuniting lost pets and their owners, as well as uniting animal lovers and animal facilities across Long Island to do just that. - Chris
