In memory of Louis L’Amour and Nathan Schellenberg Kline. Happy birthday, William Shatner, James Patterson, and Bob Costas. Past March 22s: 1457: Gutenberg Bible becomes first printed book. 1621: John Carver, Governor of Plymouth Colony, signs treaty with Massasoit. It is basically an agreement to live in peace. 1733: Joseph Priestly invents carbonated water (seltzer). 1784: The Emerald Buddha is moved with great ceremony to its current place in Wat Phra Kaew, Thailand. 1965: Bob Dylan’s album “Bringing It All Back Home,” his first featuring electric guitar, is released. 1975: Technician checking for air leaks with a lighted candle causes a $100 million fire at the Brown’s Ferry reactor in Decatur, Alabama. (Of course it was Alabama.) 2228: James T. Kirk to be born. According to creator Gene Roddenberry, Captain Kirk of the starship Enterprise is born in Iowa. (In 1985, Riverside, Iowa, passed a resolution pinpointing Kirk’s birthplace as being in that town.)
