In my back yard is a rather large walnut tree; it’s trunk about the size of a full -growed brontosaurs’ leg. It has been a wonderful tree. In the hottest days of summer it’s shade gives me a 15 degree break for the burning heat. It’s size give me scale for the massive genealogical Family search I am in the middle of. I love this tree; it must be over a hundred years old, one of the original tenants of the area. But lately, at this time every year it becomes abusive to me, making me run for cover rather than enjoy the flickering shade it’s sparse leave allow. When I set up my chair underneath its great “wings” I am constantly bombarded with projectiles the size of tennis balls. Their size, about that of a tennis balls (I don’t play tennis balls but I did need a reference point for you who read this, and I’m guessing here) streak down from the heavens at such a velocity that they impact the earth with a loud THUD! I’m sure the ants and other low-lying creatures wonder if it is the end of the world. Just now as I was out there one of these “meteorites” missed my toe by centimeters, a close call that even made me feel the pain what would have been! Always my friend, it is angry now. Tomorrow evening, my soon-to-be son-in-law and I will burn a sacrificial pit fire to appease this angry tree. Hopefully, that will be the end of the war my tree is fighting. We plan on sacrificing some wieners and marsh-mellows to end this senseless attack.
