In my birding experience - or, in other words, my life - January - TopicsExpress

In my birding experience - or, in other words, my life - January 2nd usually has been more significant than January 1st. When I was ten years old, I saw my first Brown Creeper on Jan. 2. On Jan. 2 of the following year, I saw my first intergrade Northern Flicker (with mixed characteristics of the eastern and western forms), starting me down a long road of fascination with taxonomy and geographic variation. Years later, friends and I headed into the Tepui region of southeastern Venezuela around New Years; we didnt see much on Jan. 1, but Jan. 2 was an awesome day of wonderful birds. Maybe Im just slow to get started on each new year, but I try to make up for it later. So: Happy January 2nd! Warmest wishes to all our friends - birders, naturalists, and others - and may 2015 be a deeply rewarding year for you!
