In my cross-eyed adventures, I learned one thing. Getting off a flight in Africa entailed a bribe of $50 to get through government pass port check points. To take a cab to my hotel required a bribe of $50. A hotel room was available with a bribe of $50. A meal could be had for a bribe of $50. For $50 on the street, the man with the submachine gun would kill the one you picked out in the crowd. If there were several, you could get a price break... almost. To get out of the country in question required a pass through government inspection before boarding the plane. Anything of any value whatsoever was confiscated by the government, then you would be welcomed to board your plane and leave.
