In my experience working with fearful and anxious dogs daily, there is no harm introducing new things to dogs slowly and trying to build a good association with something in a gradual process. This method can save you a world of trouble. Studies show that the general public doesnt recognize well when their dogs are afraid by their body language. Fear is for survival, all animals have it but it can become destructive if a fear develops to something nonthreatening. Dominance is really completely unrelated to fear and anxiety. Most behavior experts have completely moved away from the over simplified ideas on dominance in the domestic dogs but even if you did believe in dominance that is unrelated to fear. The top lion in the jungle may get all the female lions but still develop a phobic fear of airplane sounds. Dominance and Fear are completely separate. I recommend gradual desensitization and counter conditioning to things your dog already has a fear of and gradual introductions to new things to avoid creating a bad association. Understanding dog body language that indicates your dog is stress. You can find everything I am saying from respected veterinary behaviorists so I feel I am in good company. :-) This was my reply to somebody that posted about my body language video. If you agree with my statement please post on my youtube video. https://youtube/watch?v=BpEnYiVV5Hs
