In my novel TUMULTUS, a character called “The Godfather” was an avid Rat Pack fan, particularly of Dean Martin. This aspect of the character was more than simple entertainment though – it was an attempt by him to remember a time when America was proud to be just that – AMERICA. A country that was bold, brash, masculine, and yes, more than a little cocky, but also with the confidence to laugh at itself. A time when the entire world looked at America and said “COOL.” The Godfather was far more complex than his surface would indicate, and by the end of his chapter, far more willing to dispense justice to those who brought harm to those he cared about. With that as your backdrop, I now give you one of the funniest clips from two 20th Century American icons – Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Enjoy!
