In my personal opinion, Today companies should enforce IT Literacy at point of entry. that goes without saying, when intervewing. Ill take an example, once, we took a person to do servicing job, he doesnt required computer knowledge, its the skill we need to make things workout. not long after that, he got promoted, deals a lot with computer (mainly excel) all the data entry, anylizing and reporting. This is not a metaphor, but the level of literacy is technically 0, not o but zero. literaly, if his family is going to be kill unless he sent an e-mail, his family is as good as dead. no amount of pressure is enough to teach them, as my friend call them - dinasour. They were unable to adapt, no matter how structured the template, how step by step note we give or how many lesson just to click send or even save. let alone all the shortcut key. When people around them started to feel annoyed, their 2nd option is MIS, and as I talk with my friends in the same industry, they also have this problem. The iliterate people come in groups, a group where the ability to learn is a history past 40 years ago. And yet, we (MIS) spend most of our time helping, teaching these people. We cant take credit, we give them a good template, but turn out horrible, when its good, its their effort, if its not, why dont you get help from IT? I always think, we human always find others to blame, up to a level where admiting your fault is consider heroic. If you dont know how to use your computer, how come the computer / system is always problematic? and at the end of the day, some one has to be blame. And guess who? ~ IMPO *its my personal opinion
