In my study of Galatians, I have found that even the earliest Christians struggled with trying to figure out what was edifying and what wasnt when in came to following Christ. A sect of Jewish converts known as the Judaizers set about for the first few decades of Christendom to convince new believers they had to adhere to Works of the Mosaic Law to be justified. Paul reminds them of what Peter had proclaimed at the Council of Jerusalem a decade earlier; He made no distinction between us and them, for by faith he purified their hearts speaking of the Gentile converts. The Judaizers thought they had a leg up on the Johnny-Come-Lately Gentiles, because they were decendants of Abraham. But Paul reminds them, 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise I think today we who have lived a lifetime of Faith tend to look down on those who struggle with faith, and find it late in life, much like the Judaizers of old. But if being baptized into the body of Christ is good enough for Peter and Paul, its good enough for me, no matter how long you waited to do it.
