In my time in the SCA, I used to love poring over Persian - TopicsExpress

In my time in the SCA, I used to love poring over Persian illuminations to see how the medieval Persians dressed in their fine silks and how they wore their headwraps. For years, I thought the turbans depicted were mostly the artists taking liberties with the crazy-ass folds they showed. Then the Taliban became part of world reality. I saw a Taliban leader in a video and swallowed my tongue when I saw his turban. Exact match for what I have seen in the illuminations. Kakloads of impressive folds. In doing some notes and research today, I finally figured out how they did it. And now Im feeling dumb, because if youve ever tied a turban on a regular basis, it is fairly obvious. And even worse, I dont have the right kind of wrapping material to get the same effect as those fancy ones. Grrrr...
