In my travels as a Visiting Nurse, I see what the true home situations are in the ICMH service area. Im finding 90 somethings trying to live alone/with spouse. Their children and grandchildren live out of state due to employment reasons. A good majority of these patients are living on social security only. They can no longer drive, or they shouldnt be and drive out of NECESSITY. There is no public transportation for them out here. Quest will not come out for home blood draws because its beyond their 30 mile radius from their Williamsville office. I can not find a podiatrist to make house calls that will come any closer than the city of Lockport. There is no home delivery of groceries out here. Rite Aid and the Medicine Shoppe have both started home delivery of meds which has been a GOD SEND! Meals on Wheels has limited delivery out here due to lack of volunteer drivers. Need I continue? I can......... To take away another service in this area for these people is criminal. Something needs to happen to save this hospital AND QUICK!
