In need of geniuses According to Webster’s New International - TopicsExpress

In need of geniuses According to Webster’s New International Dictionary, a genius is defined as a person of great and rare powers of thought, skills, or imagination. He is also a person of extraordinary ability or very high intelligence. The words ‘rare’ or ‘of very great intelligence’ means, he is uncommon, unusual, extraordinary and distinctive. He is not like others; he thinks and does his own things in an unusual pattern. He frustrates tradition and defies normal principles. He does not follow the masses in opinions, he stands out. He is an expert thinker. The greatest need of the 21st century in Africa as a continent and particularly Nigeria as a country is the need for geniuses to emerge. In Nigeria, between the late 20th century and early 21st century we are now, many companies have folded up, many private and public organisations have blown away like the wind, many natural resources are crying for utilization because they are not fulfilling their purpose. There are natural resources all over the states of the nation, but few geniuses. Africa takes 40 per cent of the entire world’s resources, but is still lacking behind. If the likes of Albert Einstein, Charles Babbage, Alfred Nobel, Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Bill Clinton etc. can emerge in this nation, Nigeria would be the greatest nation to live in. Okay! How do I become one? The simple truth is that God has not created a nonentity. So, first, stop the thought that some men are born geniuses. Every man is created with a potential irrespective of your hereditary influence. Every man that has become a genius in history has made it through personal mental development. Albert Einstein was a renowned genius, but how did he make it? He had a thinking laboratory and was always in search for new things. He became renowned because he located an opportunity in the midst of adversity. Anyone can do it. Anthony Robbins says, a genius is one per cent inspiration but 99 per cent perspiration. This means geniuses are only inspired by one per cent but develop themselves by 99 per cent. So, it is mental development that produces geniuses not a matter of inborn ability. How to become a genius? 1.Have an inquisitive mind. Have a mind that asks questions always in the classroom, library, among friends, on the Internet, etc; a mind that is never satisfied, always in quest for knowledge, and to discover new things. 2.Run after information Dare to be an aggressive reader, interact with books, and soak yourself into reading. This was part of the secrets of Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest figures in the history of the world. Read wide, what you are taught in the classroom is never enough. Then, attend empowerment seminars and conferences that can supply you with adequate information. 3.Be a thinker Have a thinking time in a day, may be in your room or laboratory or somewhere that you will concentrate mentally for some minutes or hours. Think about the problems around you and how you can come out with solutions starting from where you are. Think about how you can maximize resources you have at hand. Think about how you can come out with new inventions and lots more. Geniuses are always busy mentally. One of the things that makes the Westerners better than us in Africa is that they are busier mentally than we are. They do more of mental work than the physical. If we look at some of these western countries like U.S.A, Japan, Germany, U.A.E, China, etc, we would see that they don’t have up to the resources we have in this nation, but they are able to manage effectively and productively the little resources they have because they are thinkers. Put your brain to work. 4.Be creative. Always attempt to do something new. Stop celebrating what has been in existence for years, bring something new into existence. Facebook has connected more than 500 million people worldwide because a young man, Mark Zuckerberg, brought it into existence. Larry Page and Sergey Brin brought Google into existence. You too can bring something into existence. 5.Get close to geniuses. Genius spirit is contagious, so anybody who is around geniuses will connect and contract the spirit. Be around people that will always challenge your brain. Finally, we don’t lack pastors, engineers, doctors, bankers, ministers etc. in this nation, but we only have few that are geniuses. This is the greatest challenge we are facing as a nation. So, if you are to help this nation today as a young person, then be a genius. It does not matter what you want to study or what you are already studying, or what you have studied, all we need from you is to be a genius in that field. Thank you.
