In no particular order of merit, I need: 1. A foot reflexology session. 2. 48 hours of sleep 3. Bali or Ubud, in particular. But there is work to be done. My daughter did the Art Stage Singapore rounds with me yesterday & her verdict was: You look happy tired. You didnt look like this in earlier years. I told her I hadnt felt a visual arts adrenaline rush like this before. That I had been feeding on the energy of the people I saw even though on most nights I could not get a proper meal. Each night as I logged off after filing yet another report, I wanted to wake up & see what happened the next night. That the turnout at Gillman was unprecedented. That queues for art were finally becoming real. That collectors were no longer buying Singapore Art in the last 60 minutes of the closing of the fair. That something had clearly changed. That it felt so good to be walking the fair grounds seeing so many school children in uniform carrying our reports to navigate their way around town. To be have played an itsy Bitsy part in the shaping of this story - that is what made me look happy tired. As an arts writer I had never once doubted Gillman. These things take time. Last week in Singapore was like New York in the 1980s. Gallerist Sundaram Tagore gave me this quote that is going right into my next story. I know there are folks who are still unhappy. It cant be helped. You can give some people the finest wine & theyll still be a sour grape.
