In observance of Earth Day, Public Works will provide free mulch - TopicsExpress

In observance of Earth Day, Public Works will provide free mulch for Memphis residents Saturday, April 12th. Beginning at dawn, 200 cubic yards of double-hammered mulch will be placed in the Liberty Bowl parking lot area (off S. Hollywood near Central). The mulch will be provided on a load-your-own, while-it-last, basis and residents must provide their own loading equipment and containers. Commercial businesses and non Memphis residents are not eligible for the free mulch. The double ground and aged landscape quality mulch is derived from over the over 100,000 tons of trees and other wood wastes collected and processed by the City in the last year. Since municipal recycling began in 1995, the City has recycled over 2 million tons of trees and other yard debris, saving the City over $27 million in landfill disposal. Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22, 2014 (the annual Down to Earth Festival at Shelby Farms held in celebration of Earth Day will occur on Saturday, April 19, 2014).
