In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the veteran Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani have called for shutdown in the areas where the second phase of the election drama will be held on Tuesday. The authorities will stage the next round of sham elections in the districts of Kupwara, Kulgam, Udhampur and some areas of Poonch district on Tuesday. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq talking to a Sikh delegation that called on him at his residence in Srinagar, today, said that neither the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir could be changed through such farcical elections, nor could these elections be substitute to the plebiscite, guaranteed by the United Nations.The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said Jammu and Kashmir tops the UN agenda and India is a signatory to almost 18 resolutions passed by the World Body for its settlement. The people of Jammu and Kashmir, he added, have never accepted the forced occupation of the territory by India. Meanwhile, the Hurriyet Conference Jammu Kashmir at a meeting presided over by its leader Farooq Ahmad Dar in Srinagar, today, decided to continue the boycott of the so-called elections. The amalgam denounced the ongoing curbs and restrictions imposed by the Indian authorities to make the poll drama a success. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and Democratic Political Movement in their statements denounced the arrest of freedom leaders and activists in nocturnal raids and termed the oppressive measures as frustration of the authorities. Hurriyet leader, Mohammad Yousuf Naqash in a statement said that India claims to be the largest democracy in the world, but the voices of dissent in occupied Kashmir are silenced by the dint of force. An Indian army vehicle was damaged in an Improvised Explosive Device explosion in Krishna Ghati sector in Mendhar area of Poonch district, this morning.
