In order by year, these are currently the ten movies I most like to watch during the holiday season. And one television episode. Holiday Inn (1942) - Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, music by Irving Berlin. Far superior to White Christmas and was the film debut of that famous song. Freds character is a scoundrel and a cad, which is fun to watch. Miracle on 34th Street – (1947) - The hero is a lawyer, and it has one of the best courtroom scenes ever. A Christmas Story (1983) - Never. Gets. Old. Or fails to make me want Chinese food. Die Hard (1988) - A classic. While You Were Sleeping (1995) - Sandra Bullock is SO adorable. Love the family. The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) - Gina Davis is a badass AND a mom. Like Die Hard, its not a Christmas film, but the whole thing goes down at Christmas. X-Files Season 6– Episode 6– How the Ghosts Stole Christmas (1998) - Guest starring Lily Tomlin and Ed Asner, its the scariest Christmas episode of anything ever. Contains some delightful exposition of Scully and Mulders relationship from the ghosts. Love, Actually (2003) - I know, I know. People love it or hate it. I love it. It delights me. The Family Stone (2005) - This one grew on me. I know people hate it. I think its sweet and quite funny. Last Holiday (2006) - Charming from beginning to end. Queen Latifah at her best, teaching us all to carpe diem. Also featuring Gerard Depardieu as the chef she goes to visit when she thinks shes dying. In a throwaway line, he shares the secret to life with our heroine. (Its butter. But you already knew that.) A Christmas Carol (2009) - Jim Carrey and animation and their finest. Fun and inspiring. Merry Christmas!
