In order to burn fat in the most effective ways, fat must be the most abundant energy source available. With that said, there are two main energy sources that our bodies use when exercising. One is stored body fats and the other is glycogen, or sugars (which is the primary choice of energy). Now, you’re probably wondering when our bodies decide to use which source of energy. Our bodies will burn the glycogen sugars as an energy source when we are doing resistance training, weight lifting, and anaerobic exercising. Although, our bodies will not tap into our fat storage as an energy source when our sugars become minimal or depleted while undergoing weight lifting or resistance training. The reason for this is that fat needs a significant supply or demand of oxygen to begin being “burned”, which weight training or resistance training exercises fail to provide; this is where our anaerobic exercising (or cardio) steps in! Anaerobic exercises such as, running, walking, jogging, cycling, and anything that will pump the hell out of that heart will use fat as an energy source.
