In order to give every voter the opportunity to know where their next U.S. Senator stands on the issues that matter to them, Ive challenged Sen. Cochran to meet in each of the four congressional districts for debates that are open to the public and media. Today, I called on Sen. Cochran to join me for a debate at the Mississippi College School of Law in Jackson; and over a month ago, I readily accepted an invitation to debate at The University of Mississippi School of Journalism and Politics — Cochran has yet to respond to that debate invitation issued 45 days ago. Unlike in the Republican primary, calls for a debate cannot continue to go unanswered in this very important election. Neglecting to acknowledge this opportunity to debate is neglecting to acknowledge the voters of Mississippi. A little more than 60 days remain until the November 4 election, and that is plenty of time to hold at least one debate in every congressional district to reach as many Mississippians as possible. I will continue to demand a series of debates to reach all Mississippians, and we’ll debate the issues important to our state and the nation with or without Senator Cochran. After 42 years in Congress, Mississippians deserve to hear from him.
