In order to make land viable for the production of crops, and to prevent damage to the machinery, removing stones is a must. This job requires machines capable of withstanding a lot of abuse, as well effectively removing the stones, while leaving he top soil intact. Haumet OY of Haukivuori, Finland, has developed the Ahmet 550 for raking and removing stones, up to 50cm in diameter at forward working speed of up to 4km/h. The 2m³ capacity hopper features a telescopic cylinder, capable of lifting the hopper for unloading into a trailer, or equally in the side of a field. Stones are raked into the centre section by rakes on their side of the centre picking drum, these have a combined working width of 5,5m and driven by PTO shafts with overload protection. Depth control of the rakes is provided by outrigger wheels mounted on each rake. Stones are then pushed on to the heavy-duty lifting chains, where they are transported up into the hopper. The entire machine has an average weight of 4,900kg and features tandem 500/50R17 tires on a bogie axle.
