In order to thrive, we need to belong to groups. Groups can only - TopicsExpress

In order to thrive, we need to belong to groups. Groups can only work if the individuals in the group cooperate together. To cooperate some rules need to be agreed. Rules allow for the group to be as productive as possible. Over the millions of years of our evolution, if we didn’t belong to a group, we would die (killed by predators or stave) or if we belonged to a group of individuals who didn’t cooperate with each other, we would die along with everyone else in the group (group would not work together to get enough food and fight off enemies). Our genes would not be passed on. People with genes that led to the lack of cooperation did not reproduce as much and those genes died out. The genes and people that exist now are from ancestors who cooperated. We have the cooperators genes. So we have genes that lead us to cooperate, to work out what the rules of the group are and to fit in with them enough to belong to the group. Evolution gave us the inclination to find out about and accept the morality (rules) of our group. Our group sets its morality based on habit, culture, reason, and evidence.
