In our NOTES section I have information on different resources families can look to for assistance. Here are some additional helpful resources that can help families get through tough times. These services may not be available in every town, but you will never know unless you look into them: Diaper Banks- They assist with diapers and wipes. Diapers are a HUGE expense, diaper banks can be a wonderful help for families with vulnerable children. They ensure every child has a healthy amount of diapers and wipes each day. diaperbanknetwork.org/?q=what-diaper-bank-0 Local churches: Churches can be great resources when you have a medically fragile child. Look into churches in your area and don’t be afraid to reach out to them. And reach out to many, you don’t have to attend to ask for help. One of our HH single moms had multiple churches step up to help her with holiday gifts, groceries, even household items. Salvation Army: The Salvation Army is a fantastic resource. I found cities where Salvation Army helps with utilities, transportation, rent, meals, household items and clothing. Around the holidays they can help with seasonal services and they can often help with employment assistance. Some locations provide gas cards to help families get back and forth to medical appointments as well. Contact the Salvation Army in your town to see if they offer services that could help your family. Lion’s Club: Check with your local Lion’s Club to see what assistance they can offer a family with medical needs. https://directory.lionsclubs.org/ Food Banks: They are there to help people of all types…you do not have to be homeless or elderly to go to a food bank. They help families and anyone who needs help. Do an online search for Food Shelf, Food Bank, Food Pantry…they are in almost every town across America. Reach out! Some also distribute items like shampoo and lotion. Mercy Housing: They help you find affordable housing. https://mercyhousing.org/property-locations The Parker Lee Project: These folks help families with medically dependent and special needs children obtain the needed medical supplies and equipment, education, and support. theparkerleeproject.org/ For families impacted by Cancer, there’s a Cancer Financial Assistance Coalition that includes multiple organizations that offer assistance: cancerfac.org/members.php cancerfac.org/
