In patients with an acquired coagulopathy due to high titers of autoantibodies to factor VIII, the efficacy of intravenous infusions of human factor VIII for severe bleeding is diminished by the inhibitory effects of the antibodies. A recombinant porcine factor VIII product that was recently approved by the FDA has a distinct protein sequence.
