In posts in the past ive gone on at some length about my distaste for publication, other than sharing my work on FB. What i havent done is explain my rather elitist and eccentric reading habits. With respect and admiration for those in the bookseller/poetry as a career lifestyle; i walk a very different road. By the mid-70s having worked to become a poet for a decade; and dropping out of college 3 times; i realized that path wasnt in my future. I took up the Joe Campbell read the great works approach to my education as a poet and curious human being. Within a few years of this decision, i found myself picking trash in a college town. This gave me almost limitless opportunities to pursue my interests in the worlds canon of imaginative, devotional, and historical literature. This harvesting continues today at the thrift stores i frequent, since i also developed a taste for high end reused clothing while i sorted through others leftovers. Quite frankly, this approach to my development has worked wonders; and ive come to see the academic path as a debt ridden trap. Then again thats just me.
