In preparation for the upcoming winter months and anticipated snowfall, the Manitou Springs Police Department would like to remind its residents of the following city ordinances: 12.16.010 - Accumulation of snow or debris on sidewalks—Owner duty. It is unlawful for the owner, occupant or agent of any lot, parcel or tract of land to permit snow, debris, rubbish or dirt to remain on the sidewalk on the street upon which such lot, parcel or tract of land abuts for a period exceeding twenty-four hours after the termination of the falling of the snow, or in the case of debris, rubbish or dirt, for a period exceeding twenty-four hours from the time said debris, rubbish or dirt appeared on said sidewalk. 12.16.020 - Owner failure to remove debris—City action. If at the end of the period of twenty-four hours referred to in the preceding section the snow, debris, rubbish or dirt has not been removed from the sidewalk, the city supervisor may cause it to be removed. 12.16.030 - Removal by city—Cost assessment. If the city supervisor, pursuant to the authority granted him by the preceding section, causes the snow, debris, rubbish or dirt to be removed from any sidewalk, the entire cost of such removal including the cost of inspection and other incidental costs in connection therewith shall be assessed upon the lot, parcel or tract of land abutting upon that sidewalk. Further information on penalty assessments in regards to snow removal, as well as a complete list of City ordinances, can be found on the City of Manitou Springs webpage, manitouspringsgov, in the Municipal Code section located on the right side of the page.
