In principle, the constitutional provision that allows a governor - TopicsExpress

In principle, the constitutional provision that allows a governor in power to defect to another political party is a faulty one. You can challange its credence on the grounds that votes are casted for political parties based on the manifesto, and objectives which they represent, other than the indivual representing those objectives. That clause should be conditional, stating that. 1. Any sitting governor who intends to defect to another political party should relinquish his post first, or wait till his tenure runs out. Allowing the initial provision, raises the following questions. 1. What party will be considered to be in power if a governor defects to another political party, since the INEC has declared the previous party winner of an electoral proceedure. 2. How will the initial party which was legitimately voted into power to achieve certain political objectives from thier manifestos achive that goal, 3. If the same individual had contested elections under his new political party will he have won. 4. If the answer to the 3rd question is no(which is most likely to be No 90%) then you will agree with me that it is an abuse of the electoral proceedure to allow any sitting governor in power to defect to another political party. Although i stand to be corrected. So i thereby propose an immediated ammendment of those constutitional provisions allowing thus. My humble opinion. Ewere Promise.
