In rare moments, people come into your life who stop you in your tracks. Rosita, a single mom of a very special young man, recently wrote to me. Her son Luis just began his freshman year at Mar Vista High. He wants to be a Navy SEAL when he grows up. This honor roll student has big dreams - he plans to join Naval ROTC, the water polo, wrestling and swim teams, and dreams of attending Norwich University. After that, he plans to become a Navy SEAL. She asked if I would send him a letter of encouragement to help him achieve such big goals. Instead, I wanted to meet this fine young man and he was just as exceptional as I expected him to be. He may be young, but Luis already embodies the American spirit in every way. Dream big, reach for the stars, pursue the resources that will help you get there, and don’t let anything stand in your way. I have no doubt that Luis will realize his dream of becoming a frogman. If the next generation of young Americans realizes that their potential is limitless, just like Luis has, then I know our country will be in good hands. Luis, I’ll be proud to see you in the SEAL teams one day, and to his loving mother Rosita, you have done a fine job and raised an outstanding young man. From Luis: “My meeting with Larry Wilske was a very eye-opening and enlightening experience. He told me to form good habits as early as possible, and that settling for average simply isnt good enough. He told me what was necessary to reach my goals and was realistic with me. I was very pleased and excited that he took time out of his schedule to help me.”
