In re: Michael Brown and the Cigarillos No one deserves to die for petty theft. But there seems to be quite a lot of effort going into defending Michael Browns actions in the 7/11. Some have even suggested he paid for the cigarillos; that may be true. But heres what I saw from the two videos of the incident. Video 1: (https://youtube/watch?v=maA1FUJqhew): 1. Brown picks up some cigars but then knocks the other boxes on the ground (19 seconds). 2. He picks up the boxes (27 seconds) while the store clerk takes the money he left on the counter (32 seconds). 3. He appears to start counting the boxes, then abandons the effort and heads for the door, as the store clerk is coming around to ensure he only took as many as he paid for (37 seconds). Continued on second video (https://youtube/watch?v=9Uf5mfE057E): 4. The store clerk appears to believe Brown took too many boxes and moves to stop him (1:20). 5. Brown grabs the store clerk and shoves him back, then heads for the door again (1:23). 6. The store clerk advances, apparently intent on challenging Brown, but when Brown turns around and advances, apparently intending to continue the aggression, the store owner retreats (1:26). 7. Brown exits the store, and the clerk follows him out, apparently trying to identify him (1:33). Ultimately, the store clerk opted not to call the police, I hypothesize because he realized it would be a big hassle over a few dollars of merchandise that wouldnt be recovered in any event. A customer in the store called 911 on her cell phone to report the altercation. Now, I dont know about anyone else, but to me it looked like the store clerk thought he had stolen something, and Brown didnt exactly act like he wanted to challenge that perception; if anything, it was the opposite. And I have a lot of difficulty mustering sympathy for people who bully others physically. Thanks for reading.
