In reaching out for understanding, I learned that there is a monumental wall separating these towns. It is built with the bricks of policy, barbed by racially charged anecdotes, and cemented by a fierce suburban protectionism that works to safeguard a certain way of life. This is wholly and entirely true, and its an embarrassment to our town. Far too many West Hartford residents act like Hartford is a different world, when its just across the street. We need to make a real commitment to ending the racial and economic de facto segregation that divides people along the town line.
