In reading Today’s edition of the Herald, I noticed a very interesting headline : “Zim to resume EU beef exports”.I noticed that the story is not only too ambitious but very misleading. Firstly the Government is yet to come up with a national strategy on livestock production in preparation for the exports. Secondly, In February 2014, The Deputy Minister of Agriculture(Livestock), Mr Zhanda revealed that the Cold Storage Commission nationwide was not functioning due to lack of funding and people were stripping off its assets. He even went on to say they are even looking to outside donors who are interested so that it will start functioning. So our Government wants to export beef, and there is no livestock, with no money. How is this going to be achieved?
