In real life, John DuPont (portrayed in Foxcatcher by Steve Carell) asked his wrestling students to go into his attic to search for ghosts, believed that horses were sending him messages from Mars and pushed his ex-wife out of a moving car. God, learning all of this information about the true story just shows how tepid, restrained and wholly inaccurate of the real events Foxcatcher the movie is. I understand artistic license and that a movie cant perfectly depict the real events with 100% accuracy. But Foxcatcher is a movie trying to get into DuPonts head and find out what drove him and motivated him to do what he did. So when the movie doesnt portray him as anything more than a slightly disturbed individual who does cocaine on a helicopter sometimes, its massively disappointing. Foxcatcher is such a wasted opportunity of a film and I feel like director Bennett Miller was cowardly in his attempts to bring the true-events on screen.
