In recent weeks there has been a rash of vehicle break-ins in the parking lots at Lippold Park. The most recent, which occurred last weekend, were what are termed "smash and grab" robberies where the offender sees something of value - a wallet, purse, cell phone, etc. - in plain view through the window and takes the item. They do not break the window to rummage through the car and its contents. They just grab what they see and leave. It is believed that these thefts were committed by someone out of state with Tennessee plates. Our police department advises that we not leave anything of value in plain sight in our vehicles. Take valuables with you or store them in the glove compartment or under something so they cannot be seen. The Park District Police plan to increase patrols and ask that you contact them if you see anything suspicious. Please forward this to any and all families that may frequent Lippold Park.
