In reflecting on the past 2 really crappy days I realized just how fortunate I am. Yes, yesterday sucked. I only slept a couple of hours, then as I was leaving one of my schools I broke a shoe and had to drive to a shoe store and hobble/clop inside, but I didnt find a pair that suited me, so I hobble/clopped back out to Davids pickup to drive to another store only to discover that Id left his danged keys inside the shoe store. Hobble/clopped back in, found the keys and hobble/clopped back out again. By this time I was starving so I stopped by Subway and hobble/clopped in and out. A kid asked me if I had a broken foot. Today had to be better, right? Wrong. I got to school #1 and set up all of my materials for my intervention: story board, manipulatives, lesson script, and characters. Just as I was going to pick up my group of kids the custodian comes in and tells me they need the classroom Im in and Ill have to move. Quickly I gather everything up and stuff it in my bag, hurrying to find a spot to set up. The nurses clinic is unoccupied, so I drop my bag and go find the kids who are now on the playground. Have you ever tried to convince a group of 5 year olds to forsake the playground for a lesson on the words and and or? It is not easy OR fun, AND it causes grumpiness in said 5 year olds. And now I have to hold their interest while I set my stuff up yet again. Theres a great deal of whining going on--mostly from me. I finished at that school, hurried to the second one and learn, surprise! Im being observed today. Yea! Normally, an observation doesnt bother me a bit. Today, I just hobble/clopped through it. The kids were awful--no doubt sensing my weakness--little sharks smelling the blood. I just wanted to cry. But you know, I found a pair of shoes, and I could afford to buy a nice pair. I found my keys, so that disaster was avoided. My son called last night and recounted amusing stories about my grandbabies. No one died during my lesson, and Im sure the observer felt superior to me, so it made her day. And my daughter called me and talked me down off the ledge with wisdom well beyond her years. Yep, Im fortunate.
