In regard to the triune God of the Bible, the picture (rather than being one of mathematics, geometry or deep philosophy) is really a very simple, straight-forward political and social one (close-knit ruling family). This can be seen from words pertaining directly to God e.g. King, power, glory, authority, Father, Son, Helper and Comforter (the Holy Spirit) etc. Since all Three Persons, The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19), all equally reside at the same very highest level of power and authority in heaven, and ‘God’ being the very highest title (God/King [“King of heaven” Daniel 4:37]), then all Three have to be called God. And for this reason they acknowledge and address each other by the title of ‘God’. E.g. the FATHER says: But to the Son He (the Father) says: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever” Hebrews 1:8 JESUS says: “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Matthew 27:46 “I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.” John 20:17 (The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit belong to one another, in mutual friendship, at the same level. So when Jesus says, “My God” in regard to the Father, He, at the same time, means “My friend”) “...by the Spirit of God” Matthew 12:28 The HOLY SPIRIT says through (2 Peter 1:21) David: “For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: ‘The Lord (the Father) said to my Lord (the Son), “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”’ Mark 12:36 Jesus also says in Matthew 4:4 “...but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” which at different times is the word of either the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21) e.g. in 2 Samuel 23:2, or Jesus Himself, who is the “Lord your God” of the Old Testament (Matthew 23:37; John 8:58) and our Creator (John 1:1-14; Colossians 1:16), or the Father “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17. The word ‘Trinity’ is simply an abbreviation for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who are like a team or family of like-minded individuals or friends working together in perfect harmony for the same end. In this case, and since they are all of the same nature and essence (which is love and light, and are therefore as ‘one’ and have a ‘oneness’) and have a common purpose and a shared authority, the team/family as a whole is called God, as per Genesis 1:26, 27 And God said, “Let Us make man in Our image according to Our likeness...” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. And Genesis 3:22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil.” (In the above two verses it could well be the Creator Jesus [John 1:1-14; Colossians 1:16] speaking to the Father and Holy Spirit rather than all Three speaking as one. But either way, the verses still point to the triune God)
