In response to a court decision that struck down a ban on carrying guns in public, Washington, D.C. lawmakers are proposing legislation that would allow residents who demonstrate a legitimate need to get a concealed carry permit for their legally owned handgun. According to memo on the legislation, the bill is being modeled after states with notoriously restrictive gun carry laws, including New York, Maryland and New Jersey.
