In response to a liberal friend who said We the People need to - TopicsExpress

In response to a liberal friend who said We the People need to stop squabbling, become better informed by broadening our sources for info, revisit some history lessons conveyed to us in junior high...and pull together.... somehow. I replied: Id love for America to be unified - but we are sharply divided. And the fundamental issue is one of the Judeo-Christian world view versus the secular humanist world view. Those that believe in the sanctity of human life and the importance of individual human freedoms are on one side - and those that are of a collectivist and statist mindset are on the other. I dont see any way to reconcile the two, but I will say this - the Judeo Christian worldview will tolerate and respect the rights of the humanists, but the converse is far from true. Those of the Judeo-Christian world view believe that every individual is made in Gods image, has intrinsic human rights from God and deserves respect and dignity. The secular humanist believes that we are all just cosmic accidents, that human rights are a malleable social construct and that we need to be managed, something like a herd of livestock, for our own common good. (Isnt it curious how that common good seems to always favor the politically well connected?) We do need to pay attention to history. We can choose between the examples of Stalin and Reagan. What kinds of leaders do we want? The Statist or the Judeo-Christian? Slavery or Liberty?
