In response to an Article which praised the Higher Education system in Australia and touted it as a complex system in which higher education has become a big business. comes this thoughtful reply on which wise and thoughtful administrators would do well to ponder. jysting • 14 hours ago We in Australia are slowly killing the goose that lays the golden egg of internationally desirable higher education. The lifting of student quotas without additional teaching resources critically degrades the educational experience and overburdens instructors. Lecture theatres are filled to the brim with profitable revenue generating students. Many are compelled to sit on aisle floors. Teaching staff to student ratios as well as learning resources are stretched to breaking point. Instead of being a glowing life experience, the contemporary university has become debased by the drive toward commercialising higher education to being an money spinning pursuit ... In the pursuit of income to compensate for funding cuts, we create many more vacancies than can be optimally accommodated at our univerities. This leads to a degraded learning experience and failing academic reputation, which in turn is likely to dissuade potential students from coming to study in Australia.
