In response to the ignorance that reared its head from Zoe Saldana - TopicsExpress

In response to the ignorance that reared its head from Zoe Saldana declaring that she is black. Not to be weird but i have had the same experiences as the woman or man above, where I have met many latinos who deny their black heritage. I think it depends on who you were raised by and where you were raised. In the moderate to affluent areas of Los Angeles it appears that its a mix of people who dont care and declare themselves. Where on the more impoverished side of the street it seems to matter more to not be associated with african americans. Whats ignorant is to say that your point of view trumps all point of views. You know to say something like me and my family, knowing full well that its not true mind you, acknowledge our african american heritage so all latinos do. I represent all latino culture. Thats ignorant. You dont represent your people you are not the collective voice of you people. Dont assume your views are shared by the entirety of your people. You have an opinion from a point of your experiences as does the woman above. To you people who think black is an appearance and solely one appearance, dont be dumb. Greeks, who most times end up on the darker spectrum of white, are considered white. White comes in a variety of shades as does black. For centuries the one percent rule has been the norm in America. If your a little black your all black. Case in point, our president Barrack Obama, is half black. He identifies as black. You identify him as black based on the fact he looks more black than white. Ive met people who look white, not anything but white, but are half black. They identify as black, not mixed. Probably because they were raised in what one would consider a black home. People get over yourselves reality isnt what you personally experience and what you see on tv. Theres a lot more out there. Realize that your view is not definitive. Maybe its an experience thing. Experience more. Leave your backyards, go to other parts of your neighborhood. Leave you neighborhood. Leave your state. Leave you country. Get some experience under your belt. And when your 80 and youve experienced everything that you could; recognize that you still know nothing.
