In response to well intentioned people whose advice is to just be grateful for the great life the children will have when they see birth families in pain and i say this in love..but it needs to be said.Adoption is built on trauma, pain and loss. I read that tonight and it brought me to tears, because ......it is true. Dont get me wrong, i am an advocate for adoption, i am adopted. But as the Rev Keith C Griffith said...adoption is the only traumatic experience known to man where the victims (his word) are expected by the whole of society to be grateful. As Ive looked into this ive found more than not it is the rule of thumb that birth families, esp mothers secretly carry around deep pain often for a lifetime out of fear of being judged or misunderstood as ungrateful. Birth families are very grateful. But we hurt, deeply so. I am very grateful for the gift of salvation but at the same time saddened for what Jesus had to endure so that i may receive it. Do the times i am overwhelmed by grief of His sacrifice make me less thankful? I lift in prayer every birth mother, father, sibling and grandparent. It is my deepest heartfelt desire God will heal your hearts, minds and wounded spirits and be brought into wholeness through the healing power thats found in Christ Jesus. If reunion is not possible on this side of heaven, we know it is through faith in Christ who has made our reunion in His glory possible. Though i havent seen you since the day i was born, I love you with all my heart Janie Fennell and am praying fervently for you, my dear birth mom. I cant bear the thought that you have lived 43 years with the pain i feel and see. May we all receive a much needed miracle as we lie our heads down tonight tucked in under the same blanket of stars in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
