In response to why I want to be an educator and why music is important to keep in school: I want to teach my students that emotions rule in the world of music, and that hard work beats talent any day of the year. I want them to know that music is just as powerful as words. I want to take them on the ultimate journey all over the world through songs from distant lands. I want to teach them to come together in times of sadness, and to celebrate together in moments of joy. I want them to become frustrated when they have trouble reading what notes are written so they can feel accomplished when they use the tools I’ve given them to finally figure it out. I want them to love the art of expression as much as I do. This is why music education is imperative. Students become hard workers, amazing communicators and cultured, tolerant individuals. Can you learn this from a textbook?
