In rural India, in a lot of communities there are 2 distinct phases of marriage - shaadi and gauna - wedding and consummation of marriage. From Ramayana to Mahatma Gandhis autobiography there are examples of this. Narendra Modi was married to Jashodaben at age 13 by his parents. When the time came for consummation of the marriage at age 17, the teenage Modi wanted to dedicate his life to Sangh work and not marriage. In normal parlance we would call it tyag. When his family insisted, he left home and went Ahmedabad to work with his Uncle and started working in RSS and in due course became a pracharak (evangelist). How does it make it not respecting or caring for women? We are the same people who worship Sidhartha and Ram for renunciation. Prior to 2013 you could leave certain section of nomination forms empty so he chose to leave it blank (because really he is married only in name). Post 2013, since Supreme Court has made it mandatory, he filled the details. How does it make it lying? Please get the facts and not be swayed by propaganda
