In solidarity with flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir Join Protest against Govt. on Friday at Jantar Mantar Delhi at 2:30 Pm Rapid assessment of losses caused to J&K due to flood. 1. 75800 Houses completely destroyed, 234516 houses damaged (unlivable). 2. Damage caused to electricity sector 300 Crore Rs. 3. Damage caused to transport sector 500 Crore Rs. 4. Damage caused to business sector 300000 Crore Rs. 5. Damage caused to public infrastructure sector 250000 Crore Rs. Problems due to Disaster and created by Govt post disaster. 1. Relief has been blocked by Govt. at Lakhanpor post and airports and govt is not allowing transportation of relief material through NGO’s and individuals. Govt has piled up relief material at Prithviraj Road Delhi, airports and in godowns in Srinagar like EDI Pampore etc so as to distribute the relief stuff amongst their political favorites. 2. People have been displaced in laks and govt. has not initiated any process of accommodation for displaced victims of flood. 3. Govt. is throwing carcasses directly in river Jehlum. We have witnessed that Pampore Municipal authority was directly throwing dead cows in river Jhelum at Village Samboora, Pampore. 4. People are still submerged. Water logging still exists at many places. Govt. Has not initiated any effective process of fumigation and disinfection. Demands 1. Government should allow international aid (World Bank, Asian Development Bank etc). 2. Govt. should arrange temporary shelters for homeless; nobody can stay in a tent during winter in J&K. 3. Carcasses should be properly disposed off, Carcasses are directly thrown in river Jhelum; hundreds of carcasses are floating in Wular Lake. 4. Govt. should constitute independent commission to assess losses. 5. Machines, medicine and additional doctors should be made available in J&K. 6. Agricultural loans should be remitted and interest on loans should be waived off on a greater scale. All the banks should keep moratorium of more than one year in the repayment of loans in J&K. 7. Govt. should not hinder volunteers and NGO’s in smooth and free working. 8. Govt. should stop relief-blockade. 9. J&K floods should be declared as National level disaster. 10. Govt. should intervene in relief distribution in south Kashmir and Sumbal Sonawari also. 11. Srinagar city should be reconstructed on modern lines. 12. Govt. should make insurance claim policy victim friendly and easy. 13. Govt. should start immediately effective fumigation/disinfection through choppers and manually.
