In the 1920s, millionaire James P. Flanagan hired New York designer Elsie De Wolfe to design the grand dining room of his new Tulsa mansion, known as the million-dollar bungalow because of its cost. Flanagan gave De Wolfe an unlimited budget, sparing no expense to build his residence atop the hill. As part of her design, Elsie brought in a beautiful collection of 1900 antique tapestries, which recently sold at auction for $14,000 apiece. Unfortunately, not long after the mansion was built, Mrs. Flanagan and her mother were stuck down in a terrible car accident in downtown Tulsa in the 1940s, killing both of them. Mr. Flanagan sold the residence shortly after.
