In the 1940s when Nazi Germany occupied Poland the law permitted Gestapo (Nazi secret police) and SS officers to shoot anyone, on sight, at any time, for practically any reason, Jewish or not. All Poles were regarded as subhumans with no rights whatsoever. But Irena Sendler didnt care. She set up a network that saved 2,500 Jewish kids from the Warsaw ghetto, and then managed to survive herself against all odds. What a woman. We should all be this kind, brave, and cool.
