In the 1990s, DARPA pitted computerized algorithms against human analysts to answer a simple question: Will [X] countrys government face an acute existential threat in the next six months? The software demolished CIA analysts predictions almost immediately, easily reaching 80% accuracy. Though this particular project is back under absurd layers of security clearances in the government, there are now a ton of public projects trying to predict the development of political unrest in Syria, ethnic violence in China, insurgency in Paraguay, etc. Check out the article below.
