In the 6th Annual Young Corporate Malaysians Summit held at the Intercontinental Hotel Kuala Lumpur today, I have the privilege to ask Dato Sri Idris Jala pertaining to the recent reduction of petrol price. My questions were What is the mechanism or formula used in fixing the petrol price and Why RON 95 is reduced to 4 cent & RON 97 is reduced to 9 cent? respectively. The Minister in Prime Minister Department merely answered by saying that the formula utilized is to compile the daily Crude Oil Price on the daily basis to form the monthly average. The so-called formula will be made public in the foreseeable future. To this, I am really puzzled because the formula/knowledge ought to be made available to the public before the fuel price is allowed to float in the market. My second question was conveniently left unanswered. For your information, one of speakers said that the crude oil price is downed by staggering 40% within 5 months. I cant fathom why the Government of the day cannot reduced the price further. Another thing about the session with Idris Jala is that the minister prepared 20 Microsoft PowerPoint slides thereabout but the STUPID moderator open only up to 4 questions to the floor. I would have thought that I could cross-examined him there and there and enjoy hell lot of fun doing so. There are flaws in virtually every single slide he presented and I want to test and pierced through the methodology in which the information/statistic is gathered. Further, the corporate figures dont seem to comprehend what Corporate Social Responsiblity is all about. They have done a lot of the same BUT cannot really named it specifically. If you have done plenty of CSR, surely you can give the audiences examples right? No?! In view of the above, I humbly submit that it is a necessity that young advocates and solicitors be ever present to the Young Corporate Malaysians Summit to enlighten the public on the issues called for ventilation because we are the learned one and proudly so.
