In the A grade men’s competition Rovers defeated Cellar Crows 9-2 in a comprehensive victory. Jim Daley was at his best scoring a hat trick for Rovers in an impressive return to the A grade competition. Ian Westcott (2), Cooper Wakeman (2), Lucas White and Brad Simpson also contributed to Rovers’ total. Kevin Bloomfield and Ben Hawken were the goal scorers for Cellars. Best and Fairest: Rovers – Jim Daley, Stuart Milne, Ian Westcott and Mick Minnett. Cellars – Graeme Thompson. Magpies were too strong for Masters winning the match 8-4. Masters began well taking a two goal lead, but Magpies settled into their usual play with Jack Elliott on fire once again netting five goals and gaining maximum best and fairest points. Andrew Bourke (2) and Tom Woods also scored for Magpies whilst Andrew Wright, Craig Miles, Andrew Rice and Damien Morgan all scored for Masters. Best and Fairest: Magpies – Jack Elliott, Regan Hotham, Andrew Bourke. Masters – Graeme Tanswell. In the A grade women’s competition Rovers defeated Middleton 6-1. Denise Gersbach scored a hat trick in the match with Wendy Huppatz, Jane Mattiske and Jess Ross all adding to Rovers’ total. India Draper was the goal-scorer for Middleton. Madelyn Williams put on the pads for Rovers and put on an impressive goal-keeping performance. Best and Fairest: Rovers – Denise Gersbach, Madelyn Williams, Stacey Ross, Marcia Scally. Middleton – Lee Hodge, Jodie Dunn. Magpies and Cellar Crows both took the field short of players and played out a close match with Magpies gaining a 3-2 victory. Nicole Knox, Wendy Rix and Courtney Miles all scored for Magpies with Louise Hawken netting two goals for Cellars. Madeline Hanns was outstanding in goals for Cellars. Best and Fairest: Magpies – Codie Wakefield, Louise Witherow, Wendy Rix. Cellars – Madeline Hanns, Louise Field. In the B grade men’s competition Magpies Academy defeated Magpies Black 2-0. Kaine Byrnes and Vince Umbers scored for Academy in a close match. Best and Fairest: Academy – Harrison Byrnes, Glenn Johnstone, Andrew Rice, Aaron Wright. Black – Craig Miles, Liam Wakefield. Middleton continued their good form in the B grade competition defeating Cellar Crows 4-1. Gordon McIntosh scored twice with Luke Allen and Dave Hogan also scoring for Middleton whilst Dane Hendry was the lone goal-scorer for Cellars. Dave Hogan was outstanding in the match gaining the attention of both umpires. Best and Fairest: Middleton – Dave Hogan, Gordon McIntosh, Luke Allen, Brian Townsend. Cellars – Dane Hendry. Rovers Gorillas defeated Magpies White 3-1 in a good match. Tim Hogan, Brad Simpson and Lucas White scored in an improving Rovers side whilst Will Thompson scored for Magpies. Best and Fairest: Rovers – Tim Hogan, Cooper Wakeman, Brad Simpson. Magpies – Will Searl, Will Thompson, Riley Swan. In the B grade women’s competition Middleton Pink edged out Marist 2-1. Jodie Dunn and Ally Smith scored for Middleton with Leanne Miles scoring for Marist. Best and Fairest: Middleton – Tamara Fagan, Talesha Dunn, Ally Smith. Marist – Rebeckah Auld, Leanne Miles, Kelley Westcott. Cellar Crows Black defeated Cellar Crows Aqua 4-3 in a very good match of hockey. Carla Peden was at her best in front of goals netting two for Black with Jess Lawford and Lyndal Matthews adding the extras. Carmen Amor, Lucy Blackstock and Keeley McGlashan all scored for Aqua. Best and Fairest: Black – Jess Lawford, Carla Peden. Black – Jodie Dietsch, Katie Nash, Casey Evans. In another close game, Middleton Maroon defeated Middleton Eagles 3-2. India Draper continued her dominance up front netting three goals for Maroon. Sharnie Besant scored twice for Eagles. Best and Fairest: Maroon – India Draper, Louise O’Leary, Cherie Simpson, Lyn Cassell. Eagles – Holly Cooke, Clodagh O’Brien.
