{In the Garden} It is very rare that you will see a post about plastic bottles here at Sustainababy, but when I recently saw a stack of these on the bench top at a friends house, I instantly knew that I could put them to good use! Living in a dry, arid area, I am always looking for ways to conserve water in our garden. I have recently read about using plastic bottles for drip feeding plants and directing water to the roots, where they need it most. I simply pierced two holes in the base of the plastic bottles and buried them in the garden, adjacent to the seeds I was sowing. With the bottle top exposed, the theory is that I can fill up the bottles as required and the water will drip through the bottom of the bottle. In hindsight, I may have been slightly over zealous with the size of holes that I pierced in the bottles, as the water does run out quite quickly. But TA-DA! Beautiful snow pea seedlings. I would love to hear from anyone who has used this technique in their garden too, or if you have any other water-wise gardening tips to pass on :) ~ Happy Gardening, Bel x PS: I definitely DO NOT advocate buying plastic bottles, but Im sure that you will be able to track some down without too much effort, unfortunately :(
