In the Geek/Nerd culture, we Geeks and Nerds always want to be right. Were usually the type of people who excel at being able to retain and recite information and/or weve had to use our wit and our brains to get attention. We chomp at the bit to be the one who gives the right answer first; to be the one who checks the facts. But there is one very important thing some of us in this community need to learn: Its best to let the facts reveal themselves. Instead of arguing with conjecture or debating the validity of hearsay, reserve judgment until proper evidence is given. Be vigilant of falsities, but keep an open mind. Its far better to be positive and objective than argumentative and steadfast in your conclusions. Everyone loves gossip. I am ashamed to admit I fall into its snare from time to time, but try and fight that instinct, as I constantly do. Try and rise above that impulse. Something terrible happened to one of our own this past San Diego Comic-Con International. If we dont come together as a community with something tangible to show for all of our best intentions, then we have failed. Well be the inept, narcissistic peacocks that some people think we are. But that isnt us at all. Were more than that. Its time to show our quality.
