In the Leinster Cross Country Championship this afternoon 15 year old Avril Deegan ( Ann Marie Dunphy Deegan ) ran such a brave race to record a fantastic second placing and come away with a provincial silver medal.. After going out at a fast pace with all Ireland winner Siofra OFlaherty SLOT Carlow, Avril settled into second place. She had to courageously hold off the large chasing pack over the last 2000 metres. With the gap closing Avril rallied in the last 500 metres to comfortably claim a coveted silver medal. It was an outstanding performance of strength on the steep hilks of Avondale in the garden county.. The early morning flight to Bahrain in the morning will certainly be full of excitement.
